Alfred

Alfred is a footman in Sir Walter Pole's house at no. 9 Harley-street, but comes originally from Lady Pole's estate at Great Hitherden. He is the butt of many of the malicious tricks Sir Walter's new London servants play on their fellows from the country[15].

During the Lady Pole's dinner party, Alfred is startled by the appearance of a tall person with shining silver hair and a green coat standing behind her ladyship's chair. The experience so unnerves him that he accidentally serves Lord Castlereagh a strawberry jelly instead of the partidges with truffles his lordship had requested, which causes Stephen Black to reproach him [15].
