Aubrey

Mr Aubrey was a former member of the Learned Society of Manchester Magicians. After the society disbanded Aubrey intended to write down the arguments and explanations its former members had contrived to explain why magic was at best a delusion and at worst a fraud, but he found that "a fixed melancholy had settled on him and he was not able to rouse himself enough to begin."
