Davey

Davey is Mr. Norrell's coachman. He is a great, stout-built, sturdy man, and so of particular help during the crisis when Mr. Norrell is assailed in his library by the unwelcome intrusion of Vinculus, whom Davey seizes around the body. With the assistance of his fellow Lucas Davey bustles Vinculus out of the room[13].

Later Davey takes the reins when his master hastens north to confront Jonathan Strange, but after driving practically without pause for a hundred and thirty miles he is obliged to rest at the Newcastle Arms in Tuxford. Within three days however he has rejoined his master, for he is present to say farewell to John Childermass when he breaks with Mr. Norrell. (Davey is evidently a tender-hearted man, for at that parting he sheds tears[63]). Later he is among Mr. Norrell's servants as they leave Hurtfew Abbey after it is swallowed into the Eternal Darkness[64].
