A view of Genoa

Genoa is a sea port in Italy, in the region of Liguria. It is justly famous as the birthplace of some noted explorer, who set out to investigate somewhere-or-other little known at the time - my readers will excuse my not having the details to hand: they may easily be found here.

Genoa was also the source of the Cards of Marseilles loaned to John Childermass by a sailor, from which he copied his own pack[21].

According to the fairy John Hollyshoes, Genoa was the exact sort of city to appeal to the taste of his cousin Thomas Fairwood - who, unfortunately, died before he had the happiness of paying it a visit[LoGA].
