Jeremy Tott

Jeremy Tott was the brother and biographer of the 17th century theoretical magician Horace Tott. His book on his brother's life, English Magic, was the gift Mr. Norrell presented to Jonathan Strange at the beginning of their acquaintance. Unfortunately, in response to a request by Mr. Norrell that he demonstrate some of his magic Strange caused the book to exchange places with its reflection. He was then unable to retrieve it; but since the book appears to have been as dull as its subject it was perhaps no great loss[24].
