Miss Hookham-Nix: a lady who, according to Henry Lascelles, was the subject of a particularly ungentlemanly wager at Worthing. It seems her brother had threatened to shoot this unfortunate young woman should she ever bring shame upon their family. A man named Drummond and the Duke of Exmoor then disgracefully wagered between them that she would indeed be shot, for apparently there was something objectionable in the lady's conduct that suggested she must, one day or other, bring her family into disgrace[7].
