Mrs Penelope Chelmorton was a visitor to Gregory Absalom's Shadow House who had a disquieting experience there in 1667.

During her visit, Mrs Chelmorton happened to look into a mirror, which shewed her the reflection of a young girl that rapidly aged into the likeness of herself, then past senescence and beyond. This was just one of a large number of odd occurrences in the house, the sum of which results in its present reputation[23].
