Shackleton

Shackleton is the name of the unfortunate bookseller entrusted by Mr. Murray with the sale of Jonathan Strange's book when it appears in the summer of 1816. He is a thin man of indeterminate age, of bookish appearance and with an air of scholarly neglect in his dress. He is, moreover, old-fashioned enough to wear a wig; sadly, this has seen better days.

It is Shackleton who first tells Mr Murray that something mysteriously untoward is happening to those copies of the book which have been sold. (In fact Mr Norrell is casting spells to destroy them)[50].
