Talk:John Murray
Albemarle and Fleet Street
From what I've been able to determine, John Murray did not move his home and office to 50 Albemarle street until 1812, following the publication of Lord Byron's poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage (the first volume of which sold out — all 500 copies — in three days). Prior to this, his office was at 32 Fleet Street, where his father (also confusingly named John Murray) opened the business about 1768. This makes Lascelles' and Drawlight's conversation about Mr Murray in chapter 12, set in December 1807, problematic. There are two possible correctives: either we admit that the author's description is faulty, or we assume some other earlier success allowed Murray to move to the Albemarle address. I favor the former.--Chuckhoffmann (talk) 04:50, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
