The Modern Magician was a periodical about magic that was started after the first appearance of The Friends of English Magic in 1808. The editors were not appointed by Mr Norrell but they kept the same line of opinion as the one established by Norrell [24].
Mr Honeyfoot, though prohibited from claiming the title of magician, was evidently still a reader of the publication, as he discussed Norrellite magic and its opposition by Mr Strange with Mr Segundus when the latter was faced with opposition to his opening a school for magicians by Mr Norrell [41].
It was in this periodical that Mr Segundus eventually divulged exactly how he had performed the spell which broke Lady Pole's enchantment [64].
