Thomas Norton Longman
Thomas Norton Longman (b.1771) is one of the most successful publishers in London, and a grandson of the Thomas Longman of Bristol who began the family connexion with the book trade.
The Longmans had tended to specialize in books on science, though they are also to be remembered for their part in publishing Dr Johnson's admired Dictionary of the English Language. In 1815 Mr Longman took over publication of The Friends of English Magic after its former proprietor John Murray parted company with Mr Norrell [12].
Longman was also the publisher of at least three of Lord Portishead's books: The Life of Jacques Belasis, The Life of Nicholas Goubert, and A Child's History of the Raven King [12].
