A wyvern is an heraldic beast, a sort of dragon. To modern men it is a mere creature of legend and medieval myth; whereas to the gentleman with the thistle-down hair, who has eaten them roasted, it is evidently a foodstuff[42].
There is also a Mr Wyvern of Heart-break Farm who is mentioned early in the story. He is a victim of malevolent persecution and persistent barratry on the part of of Jonathan Strange's father [14].
