Brunswick-square contains the London house of Mrs Wintertowne, which was also formerly occupied by her daughter, Emma, prior to her marriage.

The Wintertowne home was the site of the initial, unfortunate meeting between Mr Norrell and Sir Walter Pole, at which Sir Walter declined Mr Norrell's offer of magical help to the government.[6] It was also where, about a week later, Miss Wintertowne died and was restored from that condition through the efforts of Mr Norrell, aided by the gentleman with the thistle-down hair.[7][8][9]

Notes

Brunswick-square is also the residence of Mr and Mrs John Knightley in Jane Austen's novel Emma, although the titular heroine neither lives nor dies there.
