Crown Inn

The Crown Inn is the inn where Jonathan Strange and his wife Arabella stay while they are visiting Portsmouth to review the Channel Fleet [28].

The Stranges had spent a good portion of the evening at a grand ball given in their honour at the Assembly Rooms, not retiring to their room at the Crown until 3:00 a.m.. It is therefore understandable that upon being awoken by one of the inn-servants at 7:00 a.m. the following morning, it is difficult for Mr Strange to easily understand the servant's message that one of the ships, the False Prelate, has run aground on the Horse Sand shoal [28].
