Gilles de Marston was an Aureate magician, creator of the spell known as the Restoration of Flown Tranquillity, which Childermass briefly considers using on the resurrected Vinculus. (The latter, having been hanged until his neck snapped and then restored to life by the Raven King, is in an entirely understandable state of excitement.) After a moment's thought however Childermass decides that a drink from a bottle of claret might work just as well. This proves to be the case [68].
