Horses are, of course, such a mundane part of our daily lives we scarcely notice them. Yet how should the farmer sow his crops, the hunter pursue his prey, the warrior sweep all before him in battle, or the traveller journey easily about the land without the aid of these noble beasts? In the story of the Revival, several horses are mentioned by name:

Brewer, John Childermass's horse.
Copenhagen, the Duke of Wellington's horse.
Egyptian, Jonathan Strange's horse in the Peninsula.
Firenze, the exquisite mare given to Stephen Black by the gentleman with the thistle-down hair.
Starling, a carriage horse kept by Jonathan Strange.
