The Lady Winsell is a friend of Sir Walter Pole. While visiting Bath, she meets Mrs Wintertowne and her daughter Emma at a concert. Mrs Wintertowne is greatly desirous of making a good marriage for her daughter, and Lady Winsell writes to Sir Walter, advising him of the good qualities of Miss Wintertowne and the benefits that will accrue to her husband; namely an income of one thousand pounds per year [6]. Sir Walter later visits Bath and meets with the Wintertownes at the Lady Winsell's house there, and is struck by how suitable Miss Wintertowne would be as his wife [9].
In January of 1808, Lady Winsell attends the dinner party hosted by the Lady Pole [15].
