Mrs Shelley |
Former mistress and second wife of the poet Shelley, she makes the acquaintance of Jonathan Strange during his continental tour. In latter years Mrs Shelley (perhaps under the turbulent influence of her husband and his friend Lord Byron)* has also taken up the pen, producing among other works a novel, Frankenstein, in which with striking originality she combines the previously-unconnected themes of science and gothick horror.

- It may be remembered Mrs Shelley's mother was also a she-author of sorts.
