Spell of Revelation (Doncaster)

A spell of revelation is one of the three spells which Jonathan Strange tells John Childermass are necessary to reach the King's Roads[48]. (The others are a spell of dissolution and an "over-arching spell of pathfinding.) Presumably in order to go upon the Roads a magician must first ensure he is able to find his way out again; secondly, oblige the Roads to reveal themselves to him; and then thirdly cast a spell to dissolve the mirror's surface so he may pass through it.

For his first trip upon the King's Roads, Strange used a revelation spell by Doncaster. It is typical of his innate genius however that the spell of dissolution was entirely of his own devising.
