An attorney with offices in Coney-street in York, in 1807 Mr Robinson is entrusted by Mr Norrell with the matter of the Learned Society of York Magicians. He advises the gentlemen of the Society of the nature of the bargain Mr Norrell wishes to make with them - that if Mr Norrell succeeds in successfully demonstrating his claim to be a magician, they in turn will formally admit they are not magicians, disband their society and undertake never to study magic henceforth[2].
Mr Robinson is described as a most obliging and civil man, polite in manner and very neatly dressed; and like many a man of law, well able to apply his mind to any business a client proposes, without necessarily engaging his conscience.
